Neighbors Help Battle Antelope House Fire

ANTELOPE (CBS13) - A family in Antelope will be coming home to a mess after flames ripped through their home Monday morning.

The fire burned at the home at 9118 Palmerson Drive while its owners were out of town for the weekend. Neighbors helped to fight the flames, which were located in a living room, with garden hoses until firefighters arrived.

"We had three hoses going in the window in the area where the flame was," said Mark Morrison, who lives next door.

Twenty-four firefighters responded to the home and were able to contain the fire in about 10 minutes, according to Sacramento Metro Fire Assistant Chief Scott Cockrum.

"I knew they weren't home so we just did whatever we could to keep the house from going up," said Morrison, whose wife, Laura, also helped fight the fire.

The family cat was able to get out unharmed.

Damage is estimated at $70,000 and the cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, Cockrum said.
