Toddler Found Abandoned In North Sacramento Home

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Authorities are trying to identify a mother who abandoned her young girl in a teen's North Sacramento home.

A 17-year-old boy woke up just before 3 a.m. Thursday and called 911 after he found the 2-year-old girl sitting in a stroller in his living room.

Neighbors say the area is known to have drug problems, but investigators have not released any information on why the mother may have abandoned the child. The teen occupant of the home, who declined to be interviewed on camera by CBS13, said he only knows the mother as a casual acquaintance.

"We're trying to see the circumstances that led up to it," said Sacramento Police Sgt. Andrew Pettit, "if maybe the parent had to go, if there was some type of distress the parent was in."

The little girl was taken into custody by Child Protective Services and is in good condition, authorities said.
