SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Authorities are trying to identify a mother who abandoned her young girl in a teen’s North Sacramento home.

A 17-year-old boy woke up just before 3 a.m. Thursday and called 911 after he found the 2-year-old girl sitting in a stroller in his living room.

Neighbors say the area is known to have drug problems, but investigators have not released any information on why the mother may have abandoned the child. The teen occupant of the home, who declined to be interviewed on camera by CBS13, said he only knows the mother as a casual acquaintance.

“We’re trying to see the circumstances that led up to it,” said Sacramento Police Sgt. Andrew Pettit, “if maybe the parent had to go, if there was some type of distress the parent was in.”

The little girl was taken into custody by Child Protective Services and is in good condition, authorities said.

In it’s way, I’d say it’s one of the more sensible things a crack head has done… I mean she left her with a person who had 911 memorized and the sense to dial it. There have been worse fates for the children of these wrecks.

Hopefully baby gets adopted by a nice responsible family. No, we do not need to try to reunite this irresponsible person that gave birth. Notice I did not say mother? Tired of this happening to children with no choices.

    • leann

you’re right –they didn’t ask to be born nor do they get to choose who they are born to. Just heatbreaking :(

at least this mother had the decency to not do what casey anthony did

This mother should be sterilized so she can’t do this again to another kid she squeezes out after this one get placed in a home at tax payers expense. But instead tax dollars will be wasted finding placement for this kid, court cost for the public defender, putting crack mom through drug rehab, finding housing for the crack mother job placement assistance, just so she can regain custody of her kid and do all this all over again.

I know a woman who had 10 children and all taken away one at a time, last time I seen her she was pregnant again….Can Not sterilize them, It would be infringing on heir rights. She will not relinguish her parental rights, so those poor babies will stay in the system for life My opinion they have no rights. No one sticks up for those babies rights, what…… finding them a foster home to be raised in..lot of them (foster homes) are like puppie mills, they are in it for the money….I’ve seen it first hand. My mother took my friend when she was little (14)and raised her because I told her she came to school again today very sad…..she was being molested by the man in the house.(later found out). and Im sure this isn’t the only foster home this goes on in.

I have a nephew that whines about not having the latest bball shoes and how tough his life is, and he lives on a hilltop in stanford ranch…. I wish the best for the little baby.

  • mom26

my daughter was adopted through the foster system. Born to a mother on drugs who has had a total of 5 kids, so far. She has 10 more baby producing years. I feel for this little girl. How scary for the poor thing!

    Alicia M. Morales
    You’re a FOOL.
The least she could have done is taken care of her baby.
We don’t need people doing their LEAST!! We need them doing their MOST !
    God I hope ypu’re not a parent!!

    • Cindy

I don’t kow Alicia but reading her comment I don’t think she was being supportive of the mom. My interpretation is at least she didn’t harm the baby. She took it to a place where the little girl would be taken care of. I might be wrong but this is what I got out of it.

      • Alicia M. Morales

no I wasnt being supportive of her in the least…she should face charges and have her rights stripped,,,and yes Im glad she didnt harm her baby…but she should have surrendered him to fire department or hospital…not a drug infested neighborhood

    • Alicia M. Morales

Markodarko……you mistook what I said…I am not defending her whats so ever…she is most irresponsible for how she did what she did…she could have taken her to a fire department or hospital……some people are not made to be parents and she is one of them. But lucky for the child she was not harmed. And Yes Mr. Narkodarko…I am a mother and a grandmother…my kids are all grown and productive members of society……and great loving parents…..Im sorry you feel so strongly and mistook my comment for something it wasnt……

Unfortunately no stup-o-meter can be attached to dummies so they can’t have kids when it’s pegging on STUPID, like in this situation, quite the opposite unfortunately, sort of a fallacy of nature.

How r u gonna take ur baby with u when ur drug addict? Obviously she was getting high, and decided the baby wasn’t important, as her getting high. Was the teen the baby daddy? LOL! How did the teen know this triflin piece of shyt? I have never seen so many triflin azz people before, we most definitely living in the last days. I saw Nancy Grace yesterday, and she was going off about women giving birth and putting the newborn in plastic bags, then throwing the baby in the Mississippi river…SMDH! Just unbelievable, u go 9 months carrying the baby then throw it in the river. Unimaginably Unthinkable!!!!

  • Ladybug258

Giving birth does NOT make you a good mother! There is a lot of sacrificing, love and caring for a child that makes you a mother! The children are our future.
    God bless the child.

  • johnmunyer

Well,at least she dound a safe spot to leave her and the young man had the good sense to get help….hope she does

  • Melissa in NorCal

Perhaps the teen if the father. He knows the mother as a casual acquaintance? Denial perhaps? She chose to leave the child in his home for a reason. Either way, the mother is not well. The child should be placed with the mother’s family if they are willing, healthy, and able. If not, find this little girl a home.

    • Matt

Why would you place this child with the mother’s family? That does not sound like a good idea to me.

    • MAC

The Mother can not control their daughter (the Babies Mohter), which is obvious, why would they put that baby in an enviroment where the mother grew up in and probably frequents. How is this babies grandmother (babies Mother), going to raise an protect that baby. when the Mother knows where that baby is. Let someone adopt and love that baby, and let her growup and live in a home that loves and protects her. Two Years old, there is still hope she can adjust to a loving family.

    • Andy

Declined to be interviewed. Knows the mother as a “casual acquaintance”. Methinks the 17-year-old is the father of the toddler.

  • jackie

Bottom line, the toddler is SAFE thanks to the mother for leaving the child in a house, thanks to the teen ager who called 911. My cousin adopted a toddler like this, both parents drug addicts who spent most of their life in prison. She is a fantastic young women with a child of her own now and a dad who loves his child. I hope this child is as fortunate.

  • concerned reader

The so-called mother should face criminal charges, like child endangerment!

  • Jujubmine

The boy knows more than he’s saying…is all I’m saying.

  • Laura Bauer

Does anyone know if something happened to the Mom and she can’t get back??? Not enough facts….

    • Dewdrop

You’re right! Also, headline is wrong – I think abandonment would be if she was left alone. Maybe she was on the run and needed somewhere to put the baby fast so it wouldn’t get hurt. I don’t think people should judge without the fact.
