College Athlete Gunned Down In Apartment

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) -- Investigators are trying to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder of a standout Solano County student athlete at his apartment complex Thursday.

Solano Community College officials confirmed 21-year-old Ennis Johnson was shot and killed in the Fairfield apartment complex where he lives with his mother, but authorities have released few details about what may have led to the murder.

The stunned football team called off practice Thursday to mourn the player's death, saying Johnson was the heart of the team and calling his murder incomprehensible.

"I am very shocked, he's never been a kid in trouble," said coach Floyd Burnsen. "He worked at Walmart, he was a security guard at night. He worked from like 12:00 to seven in the morning and he'd be at weight training at 7:30 in the morning."

No suspects have been identified in the shooting. Anyone with information on the murder is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department.
