Wal-Mart Inc. Adding Solar To Most California Stores

WEST SACRAMENTO (AP) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Wednesday it plans to install solar-power panels at most of its California stores.

The Arkansas-based company didn't give a timetable for adding the solar equipment. It didn't immediately respond to messages seeking further details.

Wal-Mart said it will put panels on more than 130 more store rooftops in California, or more than three-fourths of its stores in the state. It said solar energy has cut the company's energy spending by more than $1 million.

The company hopes to use solar for 20 percent to 30 percent of each store's electricity needs.
