Fire At Barbershop Being Called Suspicious

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Daniel Mays received a frantic phone call from a cousin early Friday morning telling him his new barbershop was burning to the ground. He opened Amazing Fades in Del Paso Heights just one week ago.

"I feel really really bad man," Mays said. "I put a lot of money in this place. I didn't have no job."

His dream of owning his own shop so he can have a steady job went up in flames in a fire that arson investigators say someone deliberatley started. They say they found something suspicious outside of the building.

"Usually things don't start on the outside of the building by themselves," said Jonathan Williams of the Sacramento Fire Department.

Mays said he just moved to Sacramento from the Bay Area and doesn't know many people in town. He still had a "Now Open" sign on the shop on Norwood Avenue and was still passing out fliers.

"I don't know who would want to do something like this. I really don't," he said

As he sifted through the ashes, Mays said he refuses to give up on his dream, hoping to open up once again.

"I'm gonna try to get it fixed," he said. "If I can't get it fixed, I'm gonna relocate somewhere else."
