Football Dad Arrested For Hitting Coach With Ax Handle

MONTEREY (AP) -- Police say the father of a Monterey High School football player was arrested on suspicion of attacking his son's coach with an ax handle.

Lt. Leslie SonnDe told the Monterey County Herald (http://bit.ly/omr5sG) that 40-year-old Raynald Adams of Seaside was arrested Wednesday.

Police say the suspect allegedly threatened the coach and hit him at least two times Wednesday before he was detained near the football field at Monterey High.

Police declined to identify the coach, but said he didn't need medical treatment.

Adams was booked into jail on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon and being on school grounds with a weapon. He was released after posting a $20,000 bail.

Head football coach Tom Newton declined to comment, saying it would be too distracting for his players.
