Alleged Peeping Tom Attacks Camera-Carrying Bystander

DAVIS (CBS13) -- A neighbor who confronted an alleged peeping tom outside a Davis apartment was attacked and lost his camera in the subsequent scuffle.

A woman living in an apartment off Cowell Boulevard spotted a man using a camera phone to peek in through a window and told her father, an ex-police officer who asked only to be identified as Ted, about the intruder.

Ted told CBS13 a number of people in the area had reported encounters with an unknown man in recent years. Hoping to capture an image of the suspect, Ted grabbed his own camera and ran outside to confront the suspect.

"This is a peeping tom, he's going to run," Ted said.

The suspect instead ran directly at Ted, attacking him and wrestling away the camera.

Ted, who describes himself as "71 going on 19," said the suspect was about 6'1" and physically fit.

"I'm 71 and this guy's in fabulous shape," he said.

The Davis Police Department said they are working with witnesses to develop a description and composite sketch of the suspect.
