I-580 Reopens In Oakland After Robbery Shooting

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Traffic on Interstate 580 through Oakland is slowly beginning to move again but a shooting suspect remains free as police continue to search for the suspect.

The California Highway Patrol says the westbound side of the freeway was re-opened again at 5:13 p.m. Thursday after it was closed about two hours earlier. The closure has caused a massive traffic jam in the area.

CHP spokesman Sam Morgan says the suspect, who shot a woman during a robbery, remains at large.

Morgan says after the shooting, the suspect drove away, then crashed on the side of the freeway. The suspect abandoned his wrecked car and ran from the area.

Police did not have any information on the condition of the woman shot in the robbery.
