Man Fatally Shot At Business In Gold River

GOLD RIVER (CBS13) -– A man was arrested Thursday night after a fatal shooting outside a Gold River business.

CHP dispatchers were transferring a call to the Sacramento County Sheriff's department when a dispatcher heard a man on the phone say he was going to shoot trespassers at his business.

Deputies arrived at Amalgam Way and Gold River Road shortly after 10 p.m. and found a man in the driveway of an industrial business complex. The man had been shot at least once in the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

They also saw a man, 46-year-old Anthony Vigil, standing outside the business holding a shotgun. Homicide detectives later arrested Vigil.

Citizens have a right to protect themselves if they feel their life is in danger, but trespassing doesn't justify shooting someone and the victim in this case was not armed, Sacrramento County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Ramos said.

Vigil was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a charge of murder and is being held without bail.

Detectives say they do not have a motive for the shooting.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
