Three Fires Reported At Sac State

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Three suspicious fires broke out Thursday afternoon on the Sacramento State campus, forcing evacuations and causing some classes to be cancelled for Friday.

An arm chair was set on fire in the middle of a hallway on the fifth floor of Mendocino Halls, filling the building with smoke and briefly trapping one person, who was rescued unharmed.

As firefighters contained that fire, smoke was reported on the fourth floor of Mariposa Hall. All of the occupants evacuated safely, and firefighters were forced to break two windows on the fourth floor to vent the heavy smoke.

A third fire was extinguished in a trash car near the tennis courts.

State fire officials are investigating the different fires and have not yet released a cause.

Classes in Mariposa Hall have been canceled Friday due to cleanup efforts, but classes will continue as scheduled in Mendocino Hall.

Students and staff who left personal property behind in Mariposa Hall will be allowed to retrieve it beginning at 8 a.m. Friday at the front entrance.
