Grant Soccer Player CBS13's Athlete Of The Week

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A Grant High School soccer player is the CBS13 Athlete of the Week.

Edgar Cazares, 16, is a junior and three-year captain for the Lancers. And he's on a mission.

"I want to put Grant on the map in soccer," he tells CBS13's Julissa Ortiz.

Cazares has been playing soccer all his life. As captain of the varsity team he is hoping to lead them to a league championship.

"I like leading our team to wins," he says.

Cazares is just as determined in the classroom with 3.3 GPA. He hopes to study engineering at UC Davis or Berkeley. He loves math and is already using his skills to help younger students.

"We're gonna design games for second-graders, math games," he says.

After school he even tutors his teammates. Despite his busy schedule, Cazares says he is able to stay focused and keep his eye on the goal.

"I really want to be successful so I can help out my parents," he says.
