Audio: The Grant Napear Show - October 18, 2011

Another jam packed show today for the Grant Napear show. The hottest topic of today's show was the Carson Palmer trade. The Oakland Raiders traded, first-round choice in the 2012 draft and their second-round choice in the 2013 draft to the Cincinnati Bengals for QB Carson Palmer. The phone lines were on fire all day with Raider fans. It was clear that Raider fans have mixed feeling about the trade.

Grants first guest Jay Glazer with Fox Sports joined the show to give his thoughts on the Raiders trading for Carson Palmer. Jay Glazer said that the trade definitely helps the Raiders. Glazer brought up the fact that the team clearly did not have faith in Kyle Boller with bringing in Palmer. Glazer went on to say that the Raiders are a good football team; not great but good, and it is clear the Raiders head coach Hue Jackson is looking at the recent future in brining in Palmer.

Next Trent Dilfer, former San Francisco 49'er quarterback and ESPN insider joins the show to tell us what he thinks about the Raider trade. Trent loves the Raider trade saying, "The Raiders are trying to win now." Palmer can still be very good, adding, "Palmer is a pure passer." When asked what Palmer brings to the team Dilfer replied that Palmer makes the offense more dynamic. Dilfer feels that Palmer could start Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Then head coach of the Oakland Raiders Hue Jackson came on the show to give some insight on the big trade. Hue is very excited about the team's future. In reference to Palmer, Hue Jackson said, "This guy can help us get to where we want to go." "Palmer has a big arm, can make any throw, and can lead this team." Some fans might think that Hue and the Raiders gave up too much for Palmer. Jackson made it clear that he did what is best for the team. When asked what direction he will go Sunday in the QB slot Jackson said if Kyle Boller is the direction that he goes with on Sunday he feels comfortable with it.

As the show moved on, Joe Reedy with the Cincinnati Enquirer gave a Cincinnati point of view of the Palmer trade. Reedy was a little surprised that Palmer was traded today, but looking at what the Raiders offered for Palmer, there was no way that the Bengals could say no. Reedy went on to say that Palmer could be a good fit for Oakland, Oakland has a good receiving core and Palmer has mobility and a good arm. Although Reedy feels that the Raiders gave up to much for Palmer. Carson will help them win now.

Closing up the show, Brian Baldinger with the NFL Network joins the show to talk about the Oakland trade and all things NFL. Brian Said if Oakland wanted any shot at a winning season they had to make this trade. He feels that the Raiders have a better chance to make the playoffs with Palmer then with Kyle Boller. When asked about his thoughts of the team as they sit 4-2, Brian said they could be a playoff team. The team has great speed and a good offensive line. The defense however has some holes. In the past two weeks the Oakland Raiders have been through a rollercoaster of emotions, It is clear that the team in looking for the future.
