Reward Offered For Info On Who Mutilated Dog's Genitals

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A nonprofit animal protection organization announced Thursday that it is offering a $2,500 reward for information on a person who mutilated a dog's genitals.

RedRover, based in Sacramento, is offering the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever damaged the genitals of a 3-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix using the clip of a leash in late September.

Geezie's owners say he escaped from his Oak Park home one evening and returned the next day with the clip of a leash stuck around the base of his penis. The clip had to be removed using a power saw while Geezie was under anesthesia, RedRover said.

The dog's owners have given conflicting stories to Sacramento City Animal Care officers, first reporting the dog as a stray and then confirming owned Geezie. They told officers they lied initially because they were afraid of fees they might face.

One of the owners told CBS13 she was not responsible for the dog's injury.

"Geezie's pain was so severe that he could barely walk," Sacramento City Animal Care Officer Dan Torres said. "This is one of the worst cases of deliberate cruelty I have seen. This dog deserves justice and we need the community's help to find the person who did this."

"We hope our reward will encourage someone who knows more about this horrifying act to come forward with information that could lead to an arrest," said RedRover President and CEO Nicole Forsyth.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Torres at (916) 808-5855.

After he recovers, Geezie will be available for adoption from Sacramento City Animal Care, RedRover said.
