Chavez High Volleyball Captain Athlete Of The Week
STOCKTON (CBS13) -- This week's High School Kickback Athlete of the Week is a volleyball captain at Chavez High School in Stockton.
Dajanae Gresham-Ryder, 17, is a senior captain at Chavez. Her ingredients for success?
"Determination, confidence and heart," she tells CBS13's Julissa Ortiz.
"It's more mental," she says of her sport. "If you think about it, you have see the direction of the hitter, where the block is coming from, concentration."
Her hard work is paying off on and off the court. Gresham-Ryder just received a volleyball scholarship to play for the Air Force Academy in Colorado.
"Go Falcons!" she says of her future team.
She's loves sports but "academics comes first in my household."
Dejanae has held a 4.2 GPA since her freshman year. She says one day she hopes to be an obstetrician
"I love babies," she says.
