I’ve noticed an increase in panhandling at intersections and gas stations lately. They’re everywhere and getting harder to avoid. Every time you pass by one without looking they to get upset at you, like we’re all supposed to just hand over a few bucks because you write down you’re a vet or whatever. Think about how many homeless people there are in your nearest big city, then think about if you gave them each just a dollar, most people wouldn’t have enough to do it. There was a time when panhandling was not seen so romantically nor was it tolerated that much. That he got mad, even mildly violent, underlines how deep was his sense of entitlement. Now, multiply that incident 100x when in a large city when things get really bad economically, and many, many people like that are wandering about shops.

Alright Jacob, let me break this down for you. The very thing I am critiquing is the idea that if the man had money he would get help. I am not saying he would necessarily waste it… I am saying that money does not make mental health professionals appear at your doorstep. You have to go to them and you have to spend money to get their help. Most importantly, you have to be willing to admit you need them.
