NorCal Teen Soccer Star Signs With Liverpool

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool has signed midfielder Marc Pelosi, captain of the U.S. team at this year's Under-17 World Cup.

Pelosi, of Sunnyvale, Calif., will join Liverpool's academy team following his move from De Anza Force Club in California on Tuesday.

Pelosi had eight goals in 28 appearances for the American Under-17 team. He was suspended for the 4-0 loss to Germany in the U-17 World Cup's second round after getting two yellow cards in the 0-0 tie against New Zealand that ended the group stage.

Liverpool academy director Frank McParland says "we're determined to identify the best possible talent globally, and I'm delighted we've been able to bring Marc in to the club."

Liverpool is owned by Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of the Boston Red Sox.
