DAVIS (CBS13) — People are expressing dissent on the the campus of UC Davis, and they’re not going anywhere.

Reporter: “It’s possible you could be camped out here for days?”

Student: “Oh yeah, absolutely.”

The takeover of Mrak Hall — the main administration building on campus — looks more like party than protest, with bongos and flutes, pots of food, and a united, albeit general  message.

“This is about bringing down the entire system of oppression,” one protester said.

And so far protesters have been met with patience from police and UC Davis administrators.

It was two years ago this week a protest on campus turned violent. More than 50 students were hauled off to jail.

School leaders don’t want a repeat of the campus chaos, but it’s certainly on the minds of protesters. They have signs everywhere with tips and numbers to call if you’re cuffed.

“We are having a general assembly. We are having a general assembly,” goes the chant.

As long as these students keep the peace and perseverance, this could be a marathon.

“As long as it’s going like this it’s fine,” said Claudia Morian with the university’s Public Affairs Office.

No matter How long it takes?

“Well, Thanksgiving is coming. Christmas is coming. At some point it would end,” she said.

Aw, you cut out almost all of when we asked you to leave–that was the best part! Also, too bad the gentleman from Occupy Sacramento spoke before the cameras were rolling–he had some interesting things to say about the CBS portrayal of that occupation recently. I believe “slanted” was the word he used.

I saw this protest on the News tonight it looks like all of these protest need to merge together, the problems all stem from the top earners buying their way out of paying there fair share of taxes and employing over seas worker to produce what we consume. We have to stop these politicians from selling us out. Police cuts, school cuts and closures services gone and they want it paid for by the people who can afford it the least, the people on Social Security and Medicare, the students and the law abiding citizens

  • Obama Nation

The problem comes from the lazy Obama voters that want nothing but handouts, welfare recipients, endless unemployment checks so there is no reason to look for a job, students who want a college education, so they can get a high paying job, but want someone else to pay for that education.

Let the protesters stay, quit giving them everyday news coverage, the temperatures are going to drop, and the rain is coming…. they will get tired and go home.

it was funny that those loons kept screaming about their freedom of speach, but left off the next line that says freedom of the press last night when they first request the news and then kickeck them out.

It absolutely amazes me that one of the things the students are protesting is the increase in tuition. The system announced that they will be increasing tuition 20% a year for the next 5 years. That is either 100%, or if the 2nd, 3rd..etc. years are calculated off the previous years increase it could be up to a 150% increase. This announcement came 1 week after the governor announced that he was going to start giving illegals free higher education.

You know what you “students” are entitled to? Absolutely nothing. Shut the hell up and earn your keep!
