This 5k or 10k race is an annual tradition for many Sacramento families. In fact, this year, more than 27,000 people are expected to participate. The run begins on Thanksgiving morning, November 24th. Even family members who aren’t inclined for an early morning run through the tree-lined streets of Sacramento can participate by volunteering. Or just line the streets to cheer on the runners. All proceeds will benefit the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services.

To get a head start on some of that holiday shopping, consider purchasing unique, hand-made gifts from local artisans for those hard to buy for friends and family members. Baskets, ornaments, jewelry, pottery and hand-painted gourds are just a sampling of the selection of wares that will be on sale. Regular museum admission fees apply.

The classic holiday story and movie come alive in a real Polar Express adventure for children of all ages. Pajamas are encouraged and hot cocoa and cookies will be served during the experience which includes a reading of the story, caroling and a visit from Santa all while on the train. Each child will receive a bell, just like in the story and Santa will be available after the hour-long train ride for photos. The first train takes off on November 25th and the last one departs on December 18th. See website for specific dates and times.

Apple Hill offers such activities as you-pick fruit orchard, wine tasting, a brewery, and Christmas tree
farms. Many farms also have activities for folks coming out to chop their own Christmas tree down and
the official “Christmas tree season” opens on November 25. Enjoy a piping hot cup of cider, a tri-tip
sandwich and some quality time with the ones you love as you search the hills for that perfect Christmas
