The Grant Napear Show • November 22, 2011
Today on the Grant Napear show callers were ready to talk about the big news out of Denver, with the Broncos waiving Kyle Orton they place the ball firmly in the hands of Tim Tebow; at least for now. Callers wasted no time in and voicing their opinion on whether or not Tim Tebow has what it takes to carry the team to the playoffs.
Ken Berger with CBS Sports joins the show to talk about the lockout and the current state that the NBA is in. When asked about the hit that the NBA fan base is taking due to the lockout Berger said, “The longer this goes on the more fans you lose.” He went on to say, “If you chase away the fans, what are you going to do to pay the bills?” in response to how much time does the league have to save the season? Berger replied, “The league and players have very little appetite for a season to be dropped to 50 games. If something can not be done soon, we are looking at a very dark tunnel.”
Next on the show, head coach of the Oakland Raiders Hue Jackson joins the show to talk Raiders football. With the team standing on top of the AFC West at (6-4) and winning 3 out of their last 5 games, they are looking to ride this momentum through the end of the season and into the playoffs. The next test will be the Chicago Bears on Sunday Nov. 27th. Coach Jackson feels very good about where his team is right now, and feels that they will beat the Bears.
Brian Baldinger with the NFL network joins the show to talk all things NFL. When asked about the matchup between the Dolphins and the Cowboys coming up this Thanksgiving Thursday, Baldinger said Miami has been playing very well as of late. They have been able to get the ball to Reggie Bush early. They have also been able to prove that they can be very good vs. the run. Baldinger feels that Miami matches up well vs. the Cowboys. Looking at the second helping of football this Thursday when the 49ers take on the Ravens, Baldinger started by saying that the 49ers dismantled the Cardinals. They could not do anything last week. He went on to say that the way these two teams play, this game could come down to field goals. Baldinger feels that the 49ers mentally may be as tough as anybody in the league. And for the third helping of football this Thursday Baldinger gives his thoughts on the Packers matchup vs. the Lions saying Detroit is the best team defensively on 3rd down right now and that can prove to be an issue for the Packers. He expanded by saying, the “Packers defense does not scare anybody the Packers give up a lot of yards to everybody. There could be a lot of points scored in this game.” And closing out the interview Brian Baldinger shared his thoughts on the Denver move to waive Kyle Orton saying, “Tim Tebow is the best thing to happen to the NFL this season.” He went on to say, “His team is juiced right now and it is all because on Tebow.”
Closing out the show. The voice of the San Francisco 49ers Ted Robinson joins the show to talk 49er football. When asked about his thoughts on the teams surprising start Robinson said, “I don’t think the wildest optimist could have even thought of a 9-1 start. He went on to say that Alex Smith is tougher than people give him credit for. Talking about last Sundays win vs. the Cardinals was a big win because it took a lot of pressure off of this Thursday’s matchup vs. the Ravens.
