Tenant-Landlord Dispute Ends With Both In Hospital

EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) -- A simmering dispute between a tenant and landlord ended with both men being hospitalized on Sunday, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the 6000 block of Outingdale Lane in Somerset at about 1:30 p.m. for a reported assault with a deadly weapon. They arrived to find victim Ricky Laybourne, who was sitting on the ground bloody and semiconscious. He was taken by air ambulance to an area hospital for potential life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

Laybourne lived in the garage at the residence and he and homeowner Robert Dickson were reportedly having issues.

Laybourne reportedly believed Dickson sent unknown subjects over to harass him into leaving. During the altercation, Laybourne was hit several times with a blunt object, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies went next door to speak with Dickson, but he reportedly refused to come out of his residence. He eventually went to the front door and reportedly cursed at deputies and fought with one after being ordered to the ground when the deputy noticed a metal object in his pocket.

A sheriff's K-9 was brought in and bit Dickson, who was then taken into custody without further incident.

He was sent to an area hospital, where he had further medical complications and was admitted and later transported to a Sacramento area hospital, the sheriff's office said. Dickson remains in sheriff's office custody.

Sheriff's detectives are investigating to determine the identity of the involved suspects. Anybody with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (530) 621-6600.
