SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – We’re a little more than a week away from Christmas. CBS13’s Derek Shore went to Arden Fair to see how shoppers are taking advantage of last-minute deals.

According to Arden Fair Mall officials, on Saturday 35,000 shoppers entered the mall by 3 p.m. That’s 5,000 an hour taking advantage of hot shopping deals.

“This is a shopping frenzy; I’d describe it as that,” said Arden Fair Mall representative Steve Reed. “If you go around to all the stores you’re going to see 70 percent off, 40 percent off, and I think the retailers are really making an effort to try and get the customers here.”

The strategy appears to be successful. There are 5,400 parking spaces at the mall and most if not all are taken. But even if the parking lot fills up, the mall offers a shuttle for shoppers who decide to park near Cal Expo.

The mall is scheduled to close at 11 p.m.
