Deputies Nab Suspect After Dangerous High-Speed Chase

CERES (CBS13) - A Ceres man is in jail accused of stealing a van and leading deputies on a high-speed chase that left behind a trail of destruction, say sheriff's deputies.

Scott Holder, 44, of Ceres was arrested on charges of vehicle theft, burglary, vandalism and evading a peace officer.

At around noon Monday Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy Lloyd MacKinnon heard an alarm blaring at a business located in the 2400 block of East Service Road in Ceres. As he checked on the cause of the alarm, a box-type truck shot out of the parking lot and sped off.

Deputy MacKinnon got into his car and chased the truck, which left the road and crashed through fences, through a backyard and back onto the road. Deputy MacKinnon abandoned the chase when he decided the suspect's reckless driving was a risk to the public.

Police eventually found the suspect's vehicle in the 3000 block of Moore Road. It had been stolen from a business in Modesto and contained items stolen from the business on East Service Road.

Holder was found hiding under a foot bridge in a canal about ¾ miles away.
