UPDATE: Escaped Teen Captured By U.S. Marshals
SUTTER CREEK (CBS13) – A teenage fugitive who had been on the run since escaping from a roadside community cleanup project in Sutter Creek Tuesday morning was captured overnight by U.S. Marshals.
Marshals, along with the Sacramento and West Sacramento Police Departments, arrested 19-year-old Angel Iniquez after surrounding a home in the 2400 block of Connie Drive in Sacramento at 2 a.m Wednesday.
Iniquez escaped from the roadside cleanup project in Sutter Creek at about 10:55 a.m. Tuesday. He was driven away by two Hispanic men in a white, compact car as CDCR officers were distracted by another crew member who needed medical attention after cutting his leg with a chainsaw.
The remaining 13 members of the crew were returned to the Pine Grove Conservation Camp in Amador County, and all law enforcement agencies were alerted to Iniquez's disappearance.
Iniquez was committed to CDCR's Division of Juvenile Justice from Monterey County on March 16 and has been assigned to the Pine Grove Conservation Camp since May 3. He was scheduled to be released when he turned 25.
According to a CDCR press release, it has been about seven years since a juvenile offender has attempted to escape from the Pine Grove Conservation Camp, despite the fact that the youth conduct 15-20 community service projects a week in Amador County and the surrounding region, in addition to supporting wildland fire crews throughout the state.
