Manhunt Ongoing For Marysville Murder Suspect

MARYSVILLE (CBS13) — A memorial sits in the spot that Steven "Sam" Moore was shot and killed in Marysville and neighbors in the area remain on edge as the alleged triggerman remains on the loose.

"It's devastating because it was so sudden and there's no reason to kill Sam," said his estranged wife, Janette Moore, on Monday. "We were together for fifteen years since I was 17 and he was 19, and we separated a year ago."

Despite that, Janette is reeling after her estranged husband and father of her three children was gunned down outside his Marysville apartment in the afternoon on New Year's Eve.

Police say for reasons they won't tell us, a group of six people, including two juveniles, went over to Sam's house to hurt him. Officers say one of the six, Marcus Hume, pulled out a 12-gauge shot gun and shot Sam in the face, killing him.

"My worst enemy doesn't deserve to die on New Year's Eve like this," a neighbor said as he visited the makeshift memorial Monday.

Police have arrested the five other people they say were involved, but the alleged trigger man is still on the run.

"He's very dangerous right now and the quicker we get him into custody, the more likely no one is going to get hurt, including Mr. Hume," Marysville police Det. Cpl. Kevin Conde said.

Officers also say Hume, a parolee, is likely armed and believe he will not go peacefully, leaving neighbors terrified

"It's scary this guy is missing; still, you never know," one neighbor said.

The victim's family is now begging for justice and Hume's safe surrender.

"They need to find him," Janette said. "I mean, if he's going to be a coward and stand there and shoot somebody that's helpless, he needs to be caught."

Police say Hume has ties to Grass Valley and may have fled there. They say anyone who sees him shouldn't approach him but rather call police.
