Survey: Several Sacramento Companies Looking To Hire In 2012

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The new year is bringing new hope to job-seekers in Sacramento.

According to a survey conducted by Pacific Staffing, which polled the top 100 companies in the Sacramento region, 58 percent are motivated to hire in the first quarter of 2012. That's up from the start of the new year in 2011 and 2010.

"Whatever goes down must eventually come back up," Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce president Roger Niello said. "We're still seeing growth in the healthcare sector, our hospitals are expanding, Intel has announced hiring plans. We have a robust economy with regard to small tech firms."

Intel, one of the largest employers in the region, has added more than 300 jobs to its Folsom plant in recent years.

Countering that growth is Waste Connections, a national company headquartered in Folsom that is moving to Texas, taking with it with about 100 positions.

"It's a blow to our psychological economy to have a company like that leave," Niello said.

David Froste is a married father of two. He left his job because he said it wasn't paying enough to support his family. Now he's back in school. He's not as optimistic as Niello.

"I think we're heading for something worse than maybe the Great Depression. I think it's going to get much worse before it gets any better."
