California Man Believed To Have Drowned In Donner Lake

TRUCKEE (AP) — California authorities are searching Donner Lake for the body of a 24-year-old Truckee man believed to have drowned in a boating accident.

A 19-year-old Truckee woman told police that she and her friend were in a canoe that capsized just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the lake along U.S. Interstate 80 near the top of the Sierra Nevada.

She says she lost contact with him while swimming to shore.

Search and rescue crews found the canoe near the shore of the Tahoe Donner Marina Monday night. They resumed a search for the victim Tuesday morning using thermal imagers and a helicopter from the California Highway Patrol.

The name of the missing boater is being withheld pending notification of his family.
