EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) — A high school teacher and varsity baseball coach has been accused of having sex with a former student.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested David Robert Freeman, 38, on Thursday at his home in El Dorado and charged him with statutory rape and oral copulation with a minor.

In addition to coaching the baseball team, Freeman is a physical education and computer teacher at Union Mine High School in El Dorado. He has been put on paid administrative leave pending the investigation, according to the school district.

The arrest stemmed from information received in December that prompted an investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff’s detectives continue their investigation into this case and once completed will forward to the District Attorney’s Office for review, according to a press release issued Friday.
