Man Shocked While Allegedly Stealing Copper Wire

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A man is recovering at a Sacramento hospital after getting zapped with a jolt of electricity while stealing copper wiring from a business, according to the Sacramento police.

Sacramento police say the Maaco Collision Repair on Arden Way was hit two nights in a row by thieves on Sunday and Monday.

Nidin Patel just bought the Maaco and has been in the dark since he took over on Monday.

Patel's new landlord made expensive repairs on Monday after thieves hit the first time Sunday night.

Later that night, the store was hit again. But this time the thief got a shock.

"They cut the barbed wire. They cut one lock. They opened this panel. All the cables are gone," said Patel.

However, the thief left behind his burnt clothes, tools and even a half eaten treat.

"He could have fried to death," said Patel.

Even though the repairs will cost thousands of dollars and he can't serve his customers, Patel is actually praying for the thief's recovery.

The suspect was later found in a hospital with suspicious burns and will face charges.
