SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — After its grand opening over the weekend, the Church of Scientology offered the media a closer look at its new Sacramento location on Monday after a transition that took eight years to complete.

They took great care to preserve the exterior facade of the historic building on J and 6th streets. Inside it’s completely different, gutted and renovated from top to bottom.

The building, formerly the Ramona Hotel, is six stories and 58,000 square feet.

“It’s a big difference. We were definitely outgrowing old space,” the church’s Mike Klagenberg said of the move from Scientology’s previous location at 15th and I.

The information center on the ground floor is where walk-ins can ask questions and watch videos. The chapel is just off the reception area. Quotes from Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard cover the walls.

A library and classrooms are on the next floors up, and individual meeting rooms for counseling are on the fifth floor, where this device called an e-meter is used.

The device is used “to help members locate moments of trauma or stress … as a guide,” church member Erin Banks said.

The church calls this one of just 27 full-featured, so called “ideal” Scientology churches in the world. It will serve the area’s 12,000 members here.

    Join Scientology.
    Salvation is only $300,000 away!

    • Louanne

Gnarly… and so untrue. Read scientology.org or do a free course, also on scientology.org

      • V_Mathison

Right, Louanne — a “free” Scientology course. And naturally the result of this course is to find out that …. you need to sign up for more courses! And bring those credit cards!

      • Lisa McPherson

How much is Xenu’s cut of that $300,000?

      • true dat

It’s all very true. Go to more sites than the scientology site. Read the critques.

    • farquar

Whoops, you left off a zero there.

    • Christian

Ha! Let’s have an Open House to lure in more fragile, gullible people we can take for their last cent.

Come to the Open House, have some Kool-Aid–it’s free…..you just have to pay to GET OUT !!!!!

This “religion” is worse than fundamentalist Tent Revivals and their snake-oil salesmen “preachers” !!!!

      • Robin Olson

        How would you know?

      • true

Life experiene with the evil that is scientology

      • Robin Olson

Oh, and by the way, thats almost exactly what they said about christianity in the begining.

  • Louanne

Ideal Churches of Scientology are for the community to come and use or have a coffee and read a book. This one in particular is just awesome!

    • yearight

      BAAAHHAAAAAWAAAAHHH!

    • Liam

You should read Xenu.net and find out ALL about $cientology

  • Joe

Scientology is a totalitarian political movement, operating as a criminal racket, disguised as a cult, parading as a religion, hiding behind 400+ front groups.

    • Louanne

You read too much nonsense on the internet. Why don’t you go and find out for yourself?

      • Tracy Chapman

Yes Louanne….don’t read anything. Don’t do any research. Just believe you and the other Robots. Just believe…don’t find out the truth.
Yeah….not so much. Google is your friend. Read how they are now attacking a fellow Scientologist for being a whistleblower on their greed and criminal activity. Google Debbie Cook and Tampa Bay Times. Be careful of this cult. I look forward to going to Sac and walking by this empty Idle Org.

      • johnny Cash

i did thats the reason I stay away. Most of the posts here are accurate. This is clear cut case of people who are blinded. – Plato, “The Allegory of the Cave”

      • yearight

My wfe did. 10 grand later she walked away. Over 20 years, 3 states and 2000 miles latr they – throuh the illegal use of crdit recods stalked her down and have started harrassing her to come back. Scientology is evil alive and personified. Leave us alone!

      • Jose

try reading Xenu.net for the REAL info on $cientology

    • farquar

That would seem to be the case.
The so called ‘church’ was created by a terrible science fiction writer looking to rip people off, and he succeeded.

My only regret is ever reading any of mr. Hubbard’s garbage at all. I would like that wasted time BACK!

Cult member will, of course, say something completely different and most likely lying nonsense.

      • Lisa McPherson

I love that this is what scientology is based on: 75 million years ago Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and detonated hydrogen bombs in the volcanoes. The thetans then clustered together, stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to do this today. Scientologists at advanced levels place considerable emphasis on isolating body thetans and neutralizing their ill effects

    • Guest

Actually, it’s just a bunch of science fiction nonsense masquerading as a religion. Mostly it’s a tax deductible fraud!

  • BobGaines

This is awesome! I’m so glad they restored this beautiful building. IT’s been a landmark here in Sac since the 30s.

    • guest

      @Bob

How long have you been in Scientology and what OT Level are you?

Thanks for the news–nice reporting. Good to see the new Church in Sacramento.

    • yearight

What church? Bunch of frauds and stalkers

  • Alistair

This place sounds amazing. I’ve never been in a Scientology church before but I think I am going to have to check it out.

    • ItsATrap

bring your money, while they like the kind that jingles, they prefer the kind that folds (especially the ones with zero’s after the “1″).

    • guest

Alistair, how can you be a Scientologist patrolling the net for Scientology yet never have gone into a Scientology church?

    • Shakti

Please do! Don’t listen to the idiots on this website, I don’t think any of them have ever actually been there or read anything. Please see my comment below about my own EXPERIENCES there, they were all good. No, I’m not one of them, I just went a few times, and liked it. I might go back at some point, but didn’t stop going for any negative reasons. I found them helpful, intelligent, and very polite. I think you’ll enjoy the church, the one in Seattle is lovely.

      • yearight

And mywife and I did not. Stop the BS OSA pouge.

  • Jill

Just visited their new church this weekend and it was so beautiful! They really did an amazing job restoring the building and doing their part to rehabilitate the downtown area.

    • Debbie Cook

I loved the Xenu-shaped cookies they handed out!

  • OSA autobot

Beep, amazing, blah,blah,010101010101011, amazing building, this realyy does not suck, beep, whirl, thanks for non-entheta story, beep blarp

  • Smith

Icky ick ick! Kevin Johnson in bed with the Scions…Wonder how much they will donate to his campaign fund now for his juicy appearance and photo op with the King of Scientology David Miscavige.

    Cult

  • farquar

They actually closed the street for a cult opening?

Now THAT is crazier than the Louanne persona/ member spewing nonsense here.

  • David Crosby

Scientology is purely science fiction..nothing more…

    • Spence

Not True! It’s tax deductible science fiction! (And yes, it’s also a fraud)

    • Shakti

Um, have you ever been there and found out? For YOURSELF?

      • yearight

Yes and the poster are correct. It is a big fraud.

      • Shakti

I’m sorry you had that bad experience, but it wasn’t the experience I had! Not at all. I found it really helpful.

      • yearight

If scientology was sorry why won;t they leave us alone. Why do they keep mailing us and calling us. They are stalking us and making us miserable. They should leave us alone. They are evil.

  • Spence

Avoid blackmail. Don’t tell them who you really are. Better yet, just stay away from fire!

  • truth hurts

So why is Scientology suing Debbie Cook, Captain of the Flag Service Org for 17 years and responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars of donations?
Hint-she spoke up about the criminal fund raising techniques and tried to do something about it by referring to the Founder’s policies.

  • James Oliver

If you all ain’t got a Gold Card don’t bother showing up

  • Shakti

Wow, so sad all the haters!! I live in Seattle, and attended a bunch of courses there, that weren’t expensive at all, and they were really helpful! Nobody inducted me into any cult. I still have my rational brain and life in tact. Probably more so! I like Scientology, it’s helpful to people!! It helped me!!

I still have my bank balance and my sanity in tact, thanks very much.

People have so much fear about the unknown, go find out! They are nice, kind people, with a lot of helpful things to give the world. They’ve done a lot of good across the world, helping the poor and the drug-addicted, they’ve cleaned up ghettos in places like Peru, etc, and given free education to kids in Tibet, and all kinds of GOOD things. You should see their stats on how many addicts they’ve got off drugs, it’s amazing. How is that bad??

All I see about the church is how the Bishops like small children too much, and are into repressing women. Scientology is much more healthy than that, and has a far less bloody and violent history. Get a grip.

    • yearight

My wife speant $10,000. At the end nothinhg. She left. 20 years, 2000 miles and 3 states later they are now stalking her to bring her back. We have found out. We know by hard real life experience. I am at the poit of attorneys. They need to go away and you need to quit spreading falsehoods you OSA pouge.

  • James

If your wife don’t want the Scientology Church to be communicating with her… she should send them a letter to take her off their mailing list. I’ve had travel agencies call me, email me & send me info. But if i don’t want it i’ve asked them to kindly remove me from their mailing list. How hard can that be to do?

  • yearight

We have tried. We sent them letters many times to stop. We told them on the phone when they called. We sent emails, We send everything back to them unopened. They won’t stop. They don’t care. They are evil.

  • http://mourgos55.wordpress.com scotman55

So many haters! I went to the opening. Some inspirational talk from ministers and even the Mayor of Sacramento. He wants us all to be Kings fans, LOL. Great party too. I wish them well.

“yearight” has a problem with communication I think. I think Safeway is evil because they won’t stop sending me grocery flyers. Evil groceries!
