SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The owner of one of the premiere hotels in the Sacramento region has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to court documents.

The Le Rivage Hotel, owned by businessman Bob Cook, owns between $10 million and $50 million to at least 50 creditors despite only possessing assets of less than $50,000, court filings show.

Some of the hotel’s creditors include Anthem Blue Cross, Auran Design, Attorney Robert Binns, Hearn Construction, and the Sacramento Kings. Cook is a Kings minority owner who was instrumental in bringing the team to Sacramento.

A Kings spokesperson said the unpaid debt of $43,000 is from several years ago, when the hotel was a corporate sponsor of the team.

The luxury hotel opened just four years ago, but nearly two-thirds of its rooms were empty Friday night.

    Here we go again….

“The Le Rivage Hotel, owned by businessman Bob Cook, owns between $10 million and $50 million to at least 50 creditors…” You mean the hotel OWES…. not owns.

This explains a lot. My husband and I have been so disappointed in our stays in the last year that we just decided to stay at a different hotel when we are up from SF and visiting family in Sac. So unfortunate because we loved this place. But even their Yelp page is a reflection of how low this place has become.

As a local that frequents the hotel; I have stayed at the hotel several times. Our stays were always pleasant and were always given excellent service. Tommy Mims, guest manager was fabulous in attending to our needs and handling any issue that may have arisen. We have had friends and family come into town and they received the same excellent service.

A suggestion I would offer is that the hotel capitalize on the 690 miles of River at its back door. In my experience, hotel marketers never fully got the boat docking situation up and running losing revenues that could have been generated via short and long term docking services. It seems the hotel completely ignored the fact that Sacramento is truly a river town so our off seasons are a bit more harsh than those typically found in the hotel, restaurant industry. Food for thought, the river offers more than just a pretty view…

Just my two cents for what its worth.
