LINDEN (CBS13) – Investigators found human bones and part of a skull in a well on property that a death row inmate has called as a “bone yard.”

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday that they located the remains 35 feet deep in an abandoned well in a field on the 27000 block of East Flood Road at about 4:00 p.m.

Investigators suspended their search Saturday and will resume Sunday when members of the Department of Justice Crime Lab can assist in documenting the scene.

The discovery at the Linden site comes on the heels of finding two skulls and human remains on an isolated ravine near San Andreas on Thursday and Friday. The remains found earlier in the week are believed to belong to Cindy Vanderheider and Chevy Wheeler, two women killed by the “Speed Freak Killers.”

The serial killer duo, Loren Herzog and Wesley Shermantine, are believed to have killed dozens of people during a meth-fueled spree that stretched out for years in the 80s and 90s. Shermantine, a death row inmate, drew maps and provided information that may have led authorities to the recent finds.

Herzog committed suicide last month.
