SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A four-year-old boy was killed in a rollover crash that may have been caused during a road rage incident, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol said a black pickup-style vehicle was closely following a blue Honda Accord southbound Interstate 5 just south of the Interstate 80 interchange, making unsafe lane changes and tailgating, when the sedan attempted to swerve onto the Garden Highway off ramp to escape.

The vehicle, containing an adult couple from Sacramento and their young son, couldn’t slow down enough to make the turn and continued down an embankment, overturning and crashing through a chain link fence.

The boy was ejected from the vehicle and later died from his injuries. The other two victims were injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The other vehicle, described by witnesses as a Chevy pickup similar in appearance to an Avalanche with California license plates, did not stop at the scene. Anyone with information on the crash or the participants is asked to contact the CHP at (916) 338-6710.

    4:20 pm…..hmmm

  • Whitey

Maybe your inability to spell is a turnoff? On a brighter note… no, I’m not referring to you, it’s still early.

Condolences to the family… let’s hope the psychotic driver is found. I see one out there almost every day.

  • bob

how does a kid fly out of the car and everyone else walks away safe? positive thoughts, what are you, a blissful idiot?

  • Jesus

Wow This turned from a car crash to two idiots babbling! Muhahahhahaha

  • Tapestry

The car should have slowed down to a crawl the pickup would have gotten tired playing the games. Just last month a similar car played that game on I80 but that time the guy playing the game missed and killed himself.
The boy wasn’t in his seat belt otherwise he would have stayed in the car and only have injuries like the parents. I know kids can ‘cheat’ and say they are buckled up but something you need to look and make sure they did it properly.
    4 years old poor baby.

  • my kids

At 4 years old…legally the child should have been in a carseat!Prayers out to the parents!

  • Barbara

Never let anyone pressure or force you to speed the other poster is right honk the horn lay on it so that you bring attenion to your situation call 911 if you can and slow down to a safe speed.
It sounds corny but PLEASE BUCKLE UP stay in populated area lots of witnesess call for help.
If the guy had a gun that might be why they were speeding but no one got shot that we know of. too bad an innocent child is dead no matter why the adults were raging the child is innocent.

  • Monica

I hope the driver gets life. This poor baby was put in harms ways and this is the result. R.I.P angel.

  • Dale Threlkel

If the guy in the black pickup hadn’t been acting stupid nothing would have happened. My condolences to the family of the young child. I can’t imagine having such a painful loss.

  • Kartine

If the driver of the truck did not hit the honda he is not required to stop. I know this because I was in a crash caused by someone whose vehicle did not collide with the other 2 involved. So while he was the cause of the crash he got off scott free.

  • volcano

many people around are sub-human and need to be exterminated..

  • JMHO

The kid flew out of the car because he wasn’t properly secured. His mother said she taught him how to buckle himself in. What an IDIOT! You don’t trust a young child to do that, let alone to do it properly. She didn’t bother checking to make sure he did it. What a crock! A parent in his or her right mind (maybe that’s the problem) doesn’t trust a four-year-old to buckle himself in. This was either an act of pure stupidity and negligence or pure B. S. of an excuse to cover the fact that they never buckled in their son. I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I don’t want to hear, “They’ve suffered enough.” A precious young life is now dead because of STUPID parents who didn’t buckle in their son and because his father — who was driving without a license — had his ego on the line with some other schmuck driver.

[...] A black pickup truck was tailgating the Accord at high speed and both vehicles were making unsafe lane changes, according to a CBS News report. [...]

  • Parents didn’t give him a chance

Ditto JMHO…..What did the father do to enrage another driver to chase/ hit them? Maybe if Dad was driving legally with a driver’s license, he’d know the laws of the road and not infuriate other drivers. Parents probably hesitated to call CHP for help because they were criminal themselves. Poor kid wasn’t given a fair chance because his parents, not some mystery other driver that we can’t even prove exists, were neglectful in several ways.

  • George

How much you wanna bet the whole story about a road rage driver in a pick up is a made up story and the daddy-o just doesn’t want to take criminal blame for murdering his son?

  • Grandma to 5

You are all quick to blame, nobody even knows the whole story. Wait until you get the whole story before you are so quick to blame everyone. RIP little angel!!

  • Sabby

Hmm what? 420? People smoke pot had something to do with this huh?
