SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Sacramento Police are investigating after a badly burned body was found near Discovery Park Tuesday morning.

A bicyclist reported what they thought was a pile of burning leaves near a bike path shortly before 7:00 a.m. in the 1000 block of Garden Highway.

When firefighters put out the blaze, they realized it was a body and called Sacramento homicide detectives.

It was first reported that the body was that of a woman, but police now say the body is so badly burned that they cannot immediately determine its sex.

Police say this situation is extremely rare and are asking anyone who may have been in the area around 7:00 a.m. to contact police.
