The practice of Yoga started around 5,000 years ago in India. It is a Sanskrit word that literally means "yoke". In yoga terms, it means to unite the mind, body, and spirit. It is not a religion, rather it is a system of postures, breathing, and meditations to improve a persons mind and body. Yoga enthusiasts are universal in their praise of the mental and physical benefits of yoga.

Hours: Mon - Wed - 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tues - 5:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Thur to Fri - 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sat - 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sun - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Time to Be Fit studio offers one on one and group lessons. You may chose a personal trainer or opt for a group exercise experience. They offer Pilates with the apparatus, mat pilates, yoga, core and cardio circuits, and indoor cycle. There are no dues required at this studio, as they are a personal training studio. The studio is set up for all levels of yoga enthusiasts.

This studio has two locations in Sacramento. If you are new to yoga, they offer what they refer to as yoga 101. It is a 2 hour course with the goal of taking the mystery out of yoga and helping to answer your questions regarding yoga. They will provide a yoga mat for you.
There is a three week offering with six meeting for beginners that is designed to build a good yoga foundation. In addition, the studio offers many different programs for those more experienced with yoga.

Bikram yoga is a system that utilizes 26 Hatha yoga postures with breathing exercises. It involves a whole body workout that takes 90 minutes. The sessions are held in a heated room. You may know this kind of yoga as hot yoga. The heat is designed to allow the muscles to stretch better. The heated room allows for sweating which is thought to help detoxify the body.

Located in the heart of Davis, the Barefoot Yoga Studio offers quite a few yoga choices. The studio lists hot yoga, flow yoga, ashtanga yoga, and integral yoga. Each class is designed to offer a yoga experience suited to your needs. These different approaches to yoga involve various breathing and movements from one posture to the next.
