Still No Suspect In Sacramento Woman's Murder Case

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — It's been almost six months since a Sacramento was found dead face down in an irrigation ditch and still no suspect has been arrested in her murder.

"I had recently talked to her and she promised me she was coming over," Vera Nash said of her 59-year-old step-daughter Marilyn Nash.

But Marilyn wouldn't keep her promise. "Just couldn't believe it," Vera said.

Marilyn was captured in surveillance video just before her murder at a Chevron gas station. But she was found the next morning face down and beaten in an irrigation ditch on the side of Highway 99 near Florin Road.

"Her body was not treated well," Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Ramos said. "It was discarded. We think it was a very violent incident that resulted in her death."

Vera said her step-daughter didn't deserve such a fate. "She was just a sweetheart, and I know I miss her a lot," she said.

But as her family mourns, five months later still no arrests have been made in the case.

"Quite honestly, we need somebody to come forward with some information," Ramos said.

Deputies say Marilyn's case is quickly turning cold. They believe the night of her murder, Marilyn's car broke down. It was found on 6th Parkway. She likely walked to a nearby gas station across 99 on Florin, where she was captured on surveillance, the last place she was seen alive.

"She was likely walking back from the business where she was observed on video back to her vehicle," Ramos said.

Marilyn wouldn't make it to back to her car. A passerby found her body at daybreak the next morning, Sept. 1.

"We were friends, and I was her mom too," Vera said. "We was best friends."

Her step-mom is left wondering who could kill a woman so violently that she describes as sweet and funny. She fears if an arrest isn't made soon, Marilyn won't be the last victim.

"If they don't find out who did it, it will happen again because evidently he's a cold-blooded killer," she said.

Two woman were spotted on the Chevron surveillance video who investigators suspected might have had a role in Marilyn's murder. But they have since been questioned and cleared, so the case remains cold.

Marilyn has two daughters and a granddaughter. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the sheriff's office.
