Texting Dead Man With Alleged Drug Offer Leads To Woman's Arrest

FAIR OAKS (CBS13) — Sacramento sheriff's deputies arrested a suspected drug dealer who came right to them after she texted a man who had just died.

They say the woman, Krystal Stewart, texted a customer who had just died. When a deputy saw the message, a meeting was set up.

It started with someone calling 911 when they found the victim's body inside a Fair Oaks home. Deputies say it looks like 26-year-old Glenn Chesbrough died of a drug overdose. While investigators were still on scene, a text came into the dead man's phone.

"It was an offer to exchange money for drugs," Deputy Jason Ramos said.

Deputies say 25-year-old Krystal Stewart sent Chesbrough a text message offering 20 Vicodin pills for $60.

Investigators responded back, posing as the dead man and agreeing to the terms.

"An arrangement was made to meet at a nearby location," Ramos said.

When she showed up, deputies searched her car. They say they found the pills and took her to jail.

CBS13 went to Stewart's home and ran into a woman who didn't want to talk on camera but said Stewart has a prescription for the drugs and wasn't intending to sell them.

Deputies say Stewart was shocked when they broke the news of Chesbrough's death.

"She did end up finding out that the male who she thought she was communicating with had in fact died, and needless to say, she was pretty surprised," Ramos said.

Deputies say Stewart was on probation at the time of her arrest. She now faces felony drug charges.
