Chad Condit To Seek Father's California Congressional Seat

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The son of former Democratic Rep. Gary Condit says he is running for his father's California Central Valley seat as an independent.

Chad Condit, who is 44, announced in a video on his campaign website that he wants to take on the partisan gridlock that controls Washington, D.C.

The 10th congressional district includes the San Joaquin Valley, where the senior Condit held a variety of political posts before he was defeated in 2002 amid the disappearance of intern Chandra Levy.

Another man was eventually convicted of Levy's murder, but Condit refused to answer questions about his relationship with Levy.

Incumbent Rep. Jeff Denham, a Republican is already facing a challenge from Democrat and former astronaut Jose Hernandez.

Condit did not immediately return a telephone message from The Associated Press Friday.
