Pitt, Clooney, Sheen Headline Marriage Rights Play

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Jane Lynch, Martin Sheen, Jamie Lee Curtis and a dozen other stars shared a Los Angeles stage for one night to support marriage equality.

The actors performed a benefit reading of "8," a play based on the federal fight over the constitutionality of California's gay-marriage ban — Proposition 8.

Saturday's star-packed performance at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre was broadcast live on YouTube. Director Rob Reiner said the webcast attracted 200,000 viewers and he expects a million people to see the West Coast premiere of "8'' online while it is available this week.

The play by Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black, which made its Broadway debut last year, also starred Kevin Bacon, Chris Colfer, Matthew Morrison, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Christine Lahti and John C. Reilly.
