LINCOLN (CBS13) – Dozens of parents in one Lincoln community are being forced to camp out for three nights in hopes of getting their kids into a kindergarten class.

Lincoln Crossing Elementary is so impacted there only a limited amount of open spots available. Registration begins at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

Jonathan Brose came prepared for a long night with “tent chairs and lots of water.”

So did the other parents in line with him outside the school. They’re competing for their children to get one of 105 available kindergarten seats next school year, but it’s first come, first serve.

Nick Kosmides has the coveted first spot in line, guaranteeing his daughter a spot. “She’s proud, she’s excited,” he said.

While he and the couple dozen parents after him are in good shape, parents farther back in line like Jonathan actually may not make it at all.

“I thought I had until about 4 or 5 o’ clock tonight,” he said.

Although there are 105 kindergarten seats about half of them are already taken because kindergarten students with older siblings at Lincoln Crossing are automatically guaranteed a spot. So in reality, there are only 54 kindergarten openings.

“It is frustrating when I am paying tax dollars, especially living in this community, to not be able to have my kid immediately go to this school,” Jonathan said.

The families who moved into the neighborhood were told another elementary school would be built by this year. But the economy put the plans on hold.

“Feel cheated,” Nick said. “We were promised a school when we bought into this community.”

So every year, this is what parents must do to get into Lincoln Crossing or their kids go to an overflow school.

“Living right next to a school does not guarantee your kid can get into a school,” Jonathan said.

How do you like Obama’s “CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN” and “SHARED SACRIFICE.” now?

Your kid is neither proud nor exited. You are because you got interviewed. Idiots…..

  3. Nick says:

The only scam greater than Social Security is the government “education” system, and these parents are further evidence of that scam. Government “education” is not about education and it is certainly not about the children: it is about money. School districts pad their statistics to show gullible parents and prospective homeowners how superior their district is compared to surrounding districts in order to sell homes and affect (preserve or inflate) property values. School administrators and teachers secretly designate some schools as blue collar and others as white collar to further perpetuate the scam. There are few people more elitist than school administrators deciding they know what is best for your children and deciding which demographic get the best resources. Competitive, elitist parents are putty in their hands.

    1. Carlos says:

Wow Nick, that was beautifully stated. I agree, public education indoctrinates children into mini-socialists teaching them that gay marriage and the right to have an abortion are the “new community standards.”

      1. SchoolsOut says:

Sure they were. So much of the news is made up after the coup and cover up. Unelected officials took over Washington and the media. They think you can’t handle the truth. Fact of the matter is we have no democracy, president, and freedom of press is an illusion.

Our next election is shaping up to be as big of a sham as the last. Do you know why Sarah Palin’s bus tour was really canceled? Do you know why she stayed 30 miles away from the second debate and chose the death of Steve Jobs to announce that she’s not running? Know what leaked out? Sarah Palin and Cain aren’t in the race for the same reason, the truth leaked out. Search PalinsDirtyLittleSecret for the biggest cover up in history

      2. NYTN says:

Carlso, that is absolutely ridiculous. What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

      3. jd says:

what are you talking about?why do conservatives always think everything is some grand conspiracy?
I am a public school teacher and 75% of my colleagues are conservative.

  4. FreudianSlip says:

Share home schooling with other parents in the neighborhood.

    1. HomeSchoolMom says:

Great idea! They would probably find out they can do it better.

      1. jd says:

home school students have consistently performed worse.

But hey, if I’m telling you what you want to hear you can always say the source is bias like most conservatives do.

  5. David Maxwell says:

How’s that socialist utopia working out for you all? Good luck in your Brave New World. In the mean time, the “kids” spawned by state “workers” stay on their parents insurance until they’re 26. Why would you send your children to a state indoctrination center in the first place?????

    1. Stephen says:

I wouldn’t even consider allowing my child to attend a government run public school. It’s right up there with not talking to strangers looking for their missing puppy.

  6. Rico Tamika Rodriguez-Alfaro says:

California public schools are just union jobs in disguise.

  7. Just Sayin says:

Wonder how many more spots would be open if they kicked out the kids of illegal aliens….

    1. Dan says:

How long will it be before teachers need to be bilingual because hispanics are too good to learn English? I found out (on one call anyway) that if you don’t press 1 to speak to someone in English (don’t press anything) the message is repeated a few times then they say they’re gonna talk to you in English. I thought that was funny. I’m not pressing 1 for English anymore.

    2. JByrd42 says:

I have a funny feeling many seats would open up, but don’t expect this to ever happen. California government officials just love supporting illegals and their children.

  8. mamawati says:

We did that after kindergarten. We realized after that first year that public education was a lost cause in California and holding gound for incompetant teahcer and some renegade students who no one could control. We hocked our future and put our child through 12 years of private education where the school coul dfire teachers and students. We don’t regret for a minute what we gave up in exchange for what our daughter got.

    1. eyah says:

And I’m sure the fact that the school could “fire students” contributed to their success.

      1. mamawati says:

You bet. They towed the line and knew the boundaries and respected them.

  9. pablo says:

do not move to San Francisco, that has been a decade-old problem.

  10. Mr. says:

I live in Lincoln and actually refused to buy a house in Lincoln Crossing when I had the chance. That area jacked up special Mello Roos and other school bond taxes so high it makes your head spin and made me run away from buying any house in that area. No wonder these parents are upset. They were sold a false bill of goods that says this Elementary School in Lincoln Crossing is the best thing going (it’s not – I’ve seen the rankings – Twelve Bridge Elementary is superior in educational quality) and then they can’t get their kids in. Stop believing the CA school administrators pimp out newer buildings and special bond taxes are equating to better education. It is NOT true.

  11. Richard, Caldwell, NJ says:

The children of parents who camped out to get their children into that school should go to the top of the list. They showed that they would do whatever was needed to help their children succeed.

    1. Abbey says:

Whatever is needed, is for parents to home school their children.

    2. Big Cat says:

No, they sound like a bunch of idiots. One KINDERGARTEN is the same as another.

  12. Grammar Champ says:

    To David Maxwell,

I “like” the way “you” use “quotes” to offset “words”.

  13. Homeschoolmom says:

I agree. Parents, you do NOT have to put your children in public school. Teach them at home.

  14. swathdiver says:

You feel cheated now? Wait till your little darling becomes a dain bramaged Democrat!

It’s a sin for any parent to send their child to a Godless government school folks.

  15. Steve says:

‘Lincoln Crossing Elementary is so impacted there only a limited amount of open spots available’.

Who is your editor? He needs to be fired along with you.

  16. Crosscut says:

Welcome to the world of liberalism and Democrat socialism. Buh bye Kalifornia.

  17. Bob says:

this is the california school system. it was like this 20 years ago especially in new development areas when parents could still control the quality of the school and the teachers that came into them. the sooner this state sinks into the pacific the better for te rest of us.

  18. Paul Johnson says:

A bunch of nuts. Kindergarten is useless except as a baby sitting opportunity..
Mamas stay home with your kids. Give them a break instead of taking a break.
    Paul Johnson, Milton, Fl

  19. J says:

this is one of the reasons we left Cali and moved to Texas years ago. GET YOUR CHILDREN OUT OF THAT STATE!
