Shermantine Says He's 'Saving Best For Last' In 3rd Letter To CBS13

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Convicted killer Wesley Shermantine has sent a third letter to CBS13 just days after posting a second letter to the station from death row.

Once again, the letter was addressed to CBS13 reporter Koula Gianulias. It appears he has written this third letter believing his second letter may not have arrived.

However, it is not a duplicate. Once again, Shermantine is giving tidbits of information about where bodies may be buried.

Shermantine, one of the so-called "Speed Freak Killers," is currently on death row in San Quentin for killing four people in a spree that lasted from 1984 to 1999. However, officials believe he and his partner Loren Herzog are responsible for many more deaths.

As in his first two letters, Shermantine is very critical of local bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, who had promised to Shermantine $33,000 for information on the victims. In this third letter he says "I really want to believe in Leonard, but I have these doubts he'll come through, which is a shame because I've been holding the best for last".

CBS13's Derek Shore will have more on the new letter tonight on the CBS13 News at 5 & 6.
