Jaycee Dugard To Remain In Hiding To Protect Daughters

NEW YORK (AP) — Kidnapping survivor Jaycee Dugard left her secret California home over the weekend to make her first public appearance at a star-studded New York awards ceremony.

But she says she plans to continue living in hiding until her two daughters are more mature and can better understand the years they spent in captivity.

In an interview set to air Tuesday night, Dugard told ABC News that she wants her daughters to have a normal life as much as possible, and part of that involves not being recognized for now.

The 31-year-old Dugard was abducted from a bus stop in 1991 and held for 18 years in the Antioch backyard of Philip and Nancy Garrido. During that time, Philip Garrido raped her and fathered her two children.

The Garridos are now serving lengthy prison sentences.
