Clean Up Your Spring Cleaning Plan In Sacramento

Spring is fast approaching and that can only mean one thing: spring cleaning. As the cooler Sacramento months pass us by, now is the time of year to clean out the winter mess and start fresh. Spring cleaning is more than just scrubbing baseboards and cleaning out clutter. It should also be about getting organized and maintaining that freshness throughout the year. As you plan out your spring cleaning strategy, consider these space-saving and organizational tips that will keep your home beautiful and mess-free year round.

Clean out closets

The changing of seasons is the best time to open the closet doors and bring order to chaos.  Start by going through all of your clothes, identifying any that are the wrong size, worn out or simply out of style. Make three piles: donate, keep and store. Once you have whittled down the pile, take stock of your closet storage and fill in any gaps. Install adjustable shelves for extra storage or hang shoe organizers on the inside of closet doors. Use plastic bins or vacuum-sealed bags to store bulky winter clothes like sweaters and jeans. Label everything for easy reference. Take advantage of unused space, such as high shelves and room under the bed.

3 Day Closets offers innovative storage systems designed to take your home from cluttered to organized by maximizing existing space and decor. Tackle the kids' rooms

Tiny tots acquire lots of stuff and getting the clutter under control can be overwhelming, but the same tips and tools you use in other areas of the house can be used to tame the toys, school supplies and other gear. Start by deciding what to keep and what to donate or throw away. Small shelves are useful for adding storage space. Use small shoeboxes or plastic bins to keep small toys such as Legos, cars and blocks tidy and off the floor. Use plastic bags to keep game pieces from finding their way to the bottom of the toy box. Keep dresser drawers organized by taping labels on the inside, allowing kids to keep their socks from mixing with their t-shirts.

Declutter your desk

Even in the age of digital everything, most of us find ourselves drowning in papers. Get control of your home office and organize your paperwork. Start by going through each pile, identifying what needs to be kept, what needs to be shredded and what needs your attention. Use a shallow basket to keep upcoming bills or papers to be filed, and go through the basket once a week. Also take this time to update your address book. Instead of scratching out updates or stashing away loose envelopes, try this trick: Write addresses on a card and store them in a small folder or binder with business cards or photo sleeves. Keep extra cards in the back for quick and easy replacement.

Purge the medicine cabinet

An often overlooked area in the home is the medicine cabinet. Clear out expired prescriptions, nearly empty cold medicine and duplicates of items that are rarely used. Be sure to stock up on allergy medicine and tissues for spring allergies, along with bug spray, sunscreen and first aid items. Keep your medicine cabinet organized by using wire racks for adding space. Keep frequently used items in front within close reach.

Get the garage organized

Your home is clean and organized, so now it's time to tackle the garage. Spring is the perfect time to rotate outdoor equipment and tools, and store away unused items until next winter. Use sturdy metal racks or install shelves higher up for added storage. Use heavy duty bins to keep things organized and add labels or pictures of the items for easy reference. Place hooks on the wall to hang shovels, snow sleds and other winter gear. Follow the same rules as inside the home and decide what to throw out, donate or store.

Capitol Ace Hardware is family owned and operated and has a large selection of garage organization supplies.
