Vacaville Bank Robbery May Be Linked To Sacramento And Chino Robberies
VACAVILLE (CBS13) - An armed bank robber who shot a police officer may have struck again at a Vacaville bank and could be connected to an attempted robbery in Sacramento.
Vacaville Police are looking for the man who robbed the Bank of the West branch on Helen Power Drive Monday afternoon.
The suspect wearing a black ski mask and a green tactical vest with the word "SHERIFF" on the back and was armed with an assault rifle.
He got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Detectives believe the suspect is extremely dangerous and may be the same man who robbed a bank in Chino and recently attempted to rob a Sacramento bank.
During the robbery in Chino, the suspect shot and seriously injured a police officer. The suspect in the Chino robbery was also armed with an assault rifle, similar to an AK-47, was wearing body armor and a ski mask.
On Friday, the Sacramento Police Department received a call to the Tri Counties Bank, 1700 block of Challenge Way, regarding a suspect armed with a rifle. He was described as wearing a black ski mask, and a bulletproof vest under a green-colored raid vest with a gold badge.
Although the bank was open for business, the suspect attempted to enter through a locked rear door. When bank employees refused to open the door he fled in a dark-colored sedan.
Before the Chino bank robbery, police believe the suspect called a threat into the 911 dispatch center from a pay phone near the bank in an effort to delay officers responding to the bank robbery.
In each incident, the suspect was seen leaving the scene in a dark grey full-size sedan presumed to be a Nissan Maxima with chrome trim and tinted windows, according to the FBI, which aiding the local agencies in their investigations.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone who has information is asked to call their area FBI office or local law enforcement agency. Information can be provided anonymously.
