Former Postal Worker Pleads Guilty To Stealing From Rio Linda Post Office

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A former U.S. Postal Service employee has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor embezzlement for stealing more than $11,000 at the post office in Rio Linda, north of Sacramento.

Federal prosecutors said Tuesday that Denis Tyannikov took small amounts of money from the post office's cash reserve, from merchandise sales and by incorrectly reporting stamp sales and refunds.

The small change added up to $11,282 that went missing between October 2009 and September 2011.

The 25-year-old Sacramento man was arrested in December in North Dakota. He'd moved to a Fargo hotel room after authorities told him he would be charged with the theft.

He faces up to a year in prison when he is sentenced June 25. He pleaded guilty Monday.
