The Grant Napear Show - March 21, 2012

Today's big story came from the NFL, as Roger Goodell handed down harsh punishments to members of the Saints' coaching staff that the League found to be guilty of paying players to intentionally injure opponents. New Orleans' Head Coach Sean Payton was suspended for an entire season, while former Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams was given the boot indefinitely. The Saints' organization was also saddled with several other penalties (including the loss of draft picks) as a result of what has been dubbed "Bountygate".

The first hour was packed with calls and various opinions regarding Goodell's ruling on Bountygate. Midway through the second hour, Sacramento Kings' Head Coach Keith Smart joined to discuss the team's recent turnaround. After defeating the Memphis Grizzlies at home last night, the Kings are now on a three game winning streak with the Utah Jazz coming to town Thursday night. Coach Smart insightfully recounts the two losses prior to the winning streak and what the team took from those blowout defeats that led to the recent turnaround.

Grant's Rant centered around a potential deal between the Denver Broncos and New York Jets that would send Tim Tebow to the Jets and place him right in the middle of the media circus that is the New York press.

In the five o'clock hour, Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune talked about the local reaction to Roger Goodell's punishment of Sean Payton, saying that Payton is essentially banned from the team facilities without exception. Triplett lays out potential plans to fill Payton's shoes for the upcoming season. Triplett defines the extent of the penalties and what the suspension truly means.

In the six o'clock hour, Sacramento Kings forward Jason Thompson was in studio to show his versatility. Grant and Jason first talked about Tim Tebow's trade to the New York Jets and what that means under the media magnifying glass of the Big Apple. Jason then took questions from fans, raving about the work of Keith Smart and the rest of his teammates. Thompson cited consistency as the biggest reason for the Kings' recent success, specifically as it relates to coaching philosophy, playing time, and the makeup of the roster.
