CHP Officer Cut With Knife During Traffic Stop; Woman Arrested

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) - A CHP officer was reportedly cut on the neck, shoulder and hand by a combative motorist during a traffic stop on Monday.

At 2:21 p.m., the officer responded to a report of a hit-and-run and encountered a 20-year-old female driver pulled over at Hemlock Street and Shenandoah Drive in the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento County. The two got into a scuffle and the woman, identified later as Cheyenne Wheeling of Sacramento, allegedly pulled out a knife, cut the officer and ran off.

Sheriff's deputies were called out to help search for Wheeling, who was arrested a short time later hiding in a backyard shed nearby.

Neighboring Pioneer Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown.

The officer's injuries are said to be minor. The 41-year-old, whose name wasn't released, was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital for treatment.

"Luckily, they're not anything major," CHP Officer Lizz Dutton said.

Wheeling's face was bloodied from injuries she suffered when evading the officer. She also was treated at Mercy San Juan and then was to be booked at the Sacramento County Jail for attempted murder, assault with deadly weapon, false information to a peace officer, resisting arrest and hit-and-run.
