Horses Rescued From So-Called Rescue Organization

CALAVERAS COUNTY (CBS13) – More than a dozen horses rescued from a so-called rescue organization are thriving in their new home while their former owners may face charges.

Eight weeks ago, more than a dozen horses were found starving, covered in fungus and lice at a ranch in Calaveras County that claimed to be a rescue. Two dead horses were also found there.

They are now being cared for at Rehorse Rescue Ranch in the Calaveras town of Jamestown.

Some horses have gained 150 pounds since being rescued but it comes at a cost of about $250 a day.

The animals can not be adopted because they are being used as evidence in the animal cruelty investigation.
