Bridal Dress Event In Elk Grove Brings In Deal Hunters

ELK GROVE (CBS13) - The average wedding dress is over $1,200 -- way out of the price range for bride-to-be Judy Lim. She's tried on more than a dozen, gowns with no luck.

"It was overwhelming," said Lim.

But after coming to the fabulous "Bridal Affair" at the Elk Grove Event Center, Lim says she found the dress of her dreams.

"I love it," said Lim.

She loves the price tag even more.

"Much cheaper and it's great because it's for a good cause," said Lim.

The event's executive director, Fran Hansen, says by buying dresses direct from manufacturers and bridal shops going out of business, she can pass along savings of up to 85 percent.

"I always say we say we're helping brides recession-proof their wedding," said Hansen.

Hansen doesn't just take cash but also breast cancer research stamps. She offers $1 for every stamp purchased off the cost of the dress for up to $100.

"By giving them an opportunity to save on their dress it gives them that moment to stop and think about doing something special," said Hansen.

If brides don't have a chance to get the stamps, Hansen also offers five percent off if they make a donation to a local charity.

"I hope that I can make a little difference by making a big difference for somebody's wedding," said Hansen.
