Amazon Confirmed Tenant For Patterson's 'Project X'

PATTERSON (CBS13) - The mysterious Project X development promising hundreds of jobs in Patterson is a mystery no more: Amazon is indeed coming to Stanislaus County.

USAA Real Estate Company on Thursday announced that it will develop a 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center for Amazon Fulfillment on what's now a vacant field. Amazon will take occupancy of the facility in the second quarter of 2013, the development company said.

"We're pleased to be making this investment in Patterson and look forward to Amazon moving in when the facility is completed in the second quarter of 2013," said USAA Real Estate Company Chairman and CEO Pat Duncan in a press release. "We appreciate the support of local and state leaders throughout this project and USAA is excited about being a part of the community."

"We appreciate USAA Real Estate Company's hard work, the support from Governor Brown and state and local officials, and we look forward to creating hundreds of full time jobs with benefits in Patterson when the facility begins shipping to customers in 2013," said Dave Clark, Amazon vice president, global customer fulfillment.

The city manager couldn't be happier than anybody. Amazon will bring jobs, more tax dollars, and people with their own dollars.

"We're glad it's finally gone public and we're able to share with the whole community how exciting it's going to be," said City Manager Rod Butler. "Just having that many employees here, working in the community, we expect many of them will be shopping here, buying gasoline here, dining here."

USAA Real Estate Company will continue to serve as the landlord for the facility and will lease the space to Golden State FC LLC once the building is complete. Golden State FC LLC will operate the fulfillment center for Amazon.

The facility will be located north of Sperry Road, within the West Ridge Business Park.

Amazon.com is a Fortune 500 online retail company headquartered in Seattle.
