Citrus Heights Survivalist Arrested For Firing AK-47

CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - He likes to be prepared but Kelly Miller's preparedness has landed him in jail.

He has a gas mask, guns, bulletproof vest, why? "Why not?" said Miller." "Twenty-twelve is coming, December 21. A lot of people are getting ready. It's nothing new."

Miller says he's been quietly arming himself for the end of the world.

"Wouldn't you be prepared if you thought something might happen?" said Miller.

However, it all went south when police say Miller brought out an illegal AK-47 in front of his 6-year-old grandson and opened fire.

"It was just an accident, it wasn't deliberate," said Miller.

No one was injured, but officers arrested Miller for the incident that happened in Sacramento then Sacramento Police Gang Enforcement Unit searched Miller's Citrus Heights home and discovered two more AK-47s, loads of ammunition, even gas masks, but that wasn't all. In the backyard Miller had dug a 15 foot deep emergency bunker.

"I never got to finish it," Miller said.

CBS13 asked if it too was for the end of the world. "Yes it was," said Miller.

Neighbors on Miller's quiet street are shocked and frightened.

Who would need all these weapons and an underground shelter? Apparently their neighbor, who says he's not violent, only ready for whatever comes next.

"I'm not a terrorist," said Miller. "I'm just an American that's looking out for my family, okay?"
